Sandpipers in the Outer Banks (1 Viewer)

Here's a question from a new birder:
I was on Ocracoke Island in the NC Outer banks last weekend (May 27) and I saw what I thought were Sanderlings along the beach. However my field guide says they are only present in this area in the winter before heading to the arctic for breeding. Have I misidentified these or are they late migrators? I haven't had good luck looking for migration info on the internet (ie. months of migration, etc.).

Thanks.

I'd be surprised if Sanderlings did not occur in late may. We often get a little flush of late birds on this side of the Atlantic. They should mostly have been in summer plumage and hence quite easy to identify.
