Several seen in flight and floating on ocean. Appeared to be small / Thalassarche species. Distant shots, cropped, poor quality, sorry. Any thoughts?

difficult to judge on these distant shots but the seemingly yellow bill and greyish head suggests Shy

I agree with Black-browed/Campbell. Photo quality looks good enough to eliminate juvenile/1CY Buller's on the underwing pattern and apparent lack of a dark tip to the bill. The apparent gray head must be just shadowing / lighting.
