Hobby chicks fledged 13 September. Four birds madly kekking all over the valley all afternoon, next day there were three flying more discreetly (I think a buzzard may have caught one chick on the second day).

I had read that juveniles do not have red undertail coverts, but I only managed to get blurry pictures! could you help me see which are likely juveniles? it looks like white-tipped feathers in the first photo.

nos.1 through 5 from 13 September

they are all juveniles except the adult feeding the juvenile in pic 2 and 3 in second post, just have a look at the moult gaps of adult and pristine plumage in juvies
if one juvenile was preyed by another raptor, it must be Goshawk and not Buzzard

Tom, that is great! I wasn't seeing any red vents except in the pic of adult passing food on the wing (2nd pic in 2nd post).

re: raptor preying on Hobby young, On 14th I saw a biggish raptor winging off while a Hobby cried all over the valley. Very exciting if there might be a Goshawk around.

Have Honey buzzards gone by now? wasps still active on the hill.
