any ideas spotted by river i assume its a warbler but according to my book most warblers seem to appear from april onwards any help thanks paul

Very nice indeed. I was trying to get a photo of one myself yesterday in Deepdale Woods at Barnard Castle. They have just arrived back here too. There were none at all last weekend and there were six there yesterday.

I'd agree with chiffchaff on this one, but the almost total lack of green and yellowish-green in the plumage puzzles me. If I should see a chiffchaff like this in the late autumn here i Norway I'd also take a tristis or a "sub-tristis" into account. Not to say that it is, but I would certainly take a closer look if I had a chance...
