Barnacle Geese on Islay. (1 Viewer)

How many Barnacle Geese would you say are legally being shot each year on Islay. 1000, 2000 or more? The Islay Goose Management Strategy is now in place and it includes reducing the wintering population.

I've put out an extended Blog with all the details, plus action taken by the RSPB and WWT. Please read it and help if you can

Many thanks.

And to say nothing of all the Barnacle Geese that Scottish Natural Heritage and Natural England have issued licences to kill on the Solway Firth. There is at least one licence issued in Dumfries and Galloway for 2016. All in the name of protecting the economic interests of an already highly subsidised industry. Ho hum....

An update of the situation on Islay and a revival of this thread as it is still very relevant. The cull is still happening, approved by the government and carried out by marksmen employed by Scottish Natural Heritage. These three videos recently posted on YouTube, I need not explain to viewers the ethical issues with birds being wounded, dying a slow and painful death if they are not killed outright. Who shoots into the middle of flocks without selecting a target? Who shoots geese flying away from them?

I would advise that all of you contact Scottish Natural Heritage and ask them to explain how this barbaric cull can be allowed in the 21st century! Write to: [email protected]
