Wales Visit April & June 2014

I am visiting Vyrnwy Lake next weekend and was wondering what might be about at this time of year? Anywhere else local too?

In June I am renting a Cottage near to Swyddffynnon and again where is the local places to go Birding.
I have already picked out Cors Caron Nature Reserve and of course the Red Kite at Gigrin Farm.

I want to photograph new birds so any help would be appreciated.

Hi Brian. I'd definitely head for Skomer. The Puffins are so close you won't need the zoom of the SX50. There's a place just North of Gigrin which is supposed to be great for a Redstarts etc. I think it's called Gilfach but I'll check some older threads to be sure.

If you're heading to Gigrin I'd also take in the Elan Valley. It's amazingly beautiful and the drive is superb.

Rich (fellow SX50 owner)

PS I should have added these recommendations are for your June trip.

Nantyrarian reserve is on the A44 not far north of where you're staying Brian. It's lovely there, quite busy for an hour when the 200 odd Kites are being fed, but you get great views of them.

Here's a link to the birds section of the website.
