Having recently installed CS4 on my laptop and imported the first image, the image is split into four quarters with a diagonal line across each quarter and half of each quarter is blacked out.
Any suggestions please.

The first thing to do with Photoshop problems is to reset the preferences.

Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) as you start Photoshop.

Just check also you have the latest drivers for you video card. Maybe some faulty RAM? Difficult to say.
