Rocky Mtn/Great Basin Birding sites? (1 Viewer)

Hey all -

I will be making my way back home to Oregon (from Idaho) and plan on taking the long way around ... I will be travelling south through Wyoming, into Northern Colorado, across to Salt Lake City and Reno, and then back up through southern Oregon. Does anybody out there know of anywhere good to birdwatch this time of year?? Any waterfowl wintering sites or anything like that? I will definitely be spending some time in the Klamath Lake area, I know there are good birds there, but I didn't know about the other areas? Suggestions?

Just the other day I was checking out if there where any good birding spots in Oregon.
Um.... basicly all southern oregon is good on the coast. spetialy curry county and there it is also good for everything else too, not just shorebirds.
Well I guess thats about all I can say.

I'd recommend the Pawnee National Grassland in NE Colorado, Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge north of Salt Lake City, Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon, and Jump Creek Canyon in SW Idaho. I've visited all of them except Malheur, and the birding can be great at each site in the proper season.

Great sounding trip. I lived in S.Idaho and Reno for a few years but didn't get much birding done. One very good trip to Tule Lake area, loads of wildfowl. Driving across Nevada could be interesting if you can get away from the roads into the mountains. The different altitudes should produce a good variety of birds. I'll have to dig out my Great Basin Natural History book.
