I found this randomly posted in a facebook group (not a bird-related one). I assume that it is a cut-and-paste job, possibly involving a taxidermy specimen, but I was wondering about what species...
My first thought was Wedge-tailed Eagle, due to the long tail, uniformly dark plumage and generally "lanky" appearance, but the background looks like somewhere in Europe or eastern North America, not Australia (though of course there doesn't have to be a real location connection with something like this!). Golden Eagle is the species probably (if anything is) behind any real accounts of birds carrying off children, but I don't know if even a badly mounted stuffed one could look so long-tailed?
Another possibility I considered was a juv Lammergeier (another species that has been associated with these kind of legends). Any other thoughts?
