Pentax K-01 w/40mm pancake bargain (1 Viewer)

Don't Worry, Be Happy!
Was to attend the CP+ show today but came down with cold so couch surfing camera deals when I noticed the K-01 w/40mm pancake is selling for a silly cheap ~US350 now!

With the best in class high ISO performance and battery life among mirrorless ILC cameras, this seems like it could be THE digiscoping camera to grab instead of the Nikon V1. Especially like the fact Pentax uses the DNG standard RAW files.

Of course this all depends on it playing nice with scope eyepieces but some could see a nice effective focal range of up to 3600mm.

Guinea pigs?o:D

Well no doubt about it, the larger sensor can deliver slower shutter speeds and there is a risk of diffraction and poor AF by the relatively slow effective aperture.

It's really the 40mm pancake that makes digiscoping possible I think. Given this lens alone sells for ~$240 the camera is almost being given away. Here in Japan the double zoom kit can even be bought with and 18-55 and 55-300mm lenses for only JPY37,000 so the camera really is free as the lenses alone sell for a combined JPY45,000!
