2 discoveries today... (1 Viewer)

Dimitris

Birdwatcher in Oz
Today was a very cr@ppy day...Lots of traffic and a car accident kept my buss slow and I missed a freaking exam... :eek!: .Oh well I got over that...easily...but my bloody classmates ,and not only them, kept "anoying" (usualy they are cool to hang around with) me.I don't know what fly bit them today...Thank God nature manages to cheer me up!

Anyways the 2 thing I discovered today (and that's not:"Athens is a terrible city to live in") are:

1) The European Robin actualy breeds in Athens and is not a mere winter visitor.I found a nice pair collecting insects for theyr hungry young at Uni.This is the first pair I've found and the male (God BLESS him) even gave me a note(song)! :bounce:

2)Don't go looking for birds, let them find you!Today I saw my first ever Lanius!
It was a stunning male Lanius senator(Woodchat Shrike), I saw him from the train in a small orchard that civilazation had forgoten to destroy. His plumage was glossy and his head seemed to glow under the strong spring sun...Mind you this was not in the country side it was in the CITY CENTER and I was not even looking for birds!!! :bounce: .

So yes humans can be cr@p, the cities they live in cr@ppier still. But nature and her wonders will always manage to hang in there.

Have a nice day from a grumpy-happy Greek.

Dimitris. :bounce:

LOL, Dimi, great sentiment and one worth remembering. :t:

I have an ongoing photography project that I started several years ago in Los Angeles that, while not bird-centric, points out that there's beauty all around us, even in one of the largest, sprawliest, ugliest "cities" in the world. (LA has always been maligned as "a city in search of itself" because it's so spread out.) Like you finding your bird from a train, even sitting on a freeway in a miles-long traffic jam, pockets of beauty can be found if we just look.
