Is this an African Fish Eagle? (1 Viewer)

Agreed Martial - certainly not an adult.

I spent a week or so in Tsavo West many many years stopping at Ngulia Safari Lodge. During the heat of the day i used to sit watching the water hole and salt lick.....coolB :) of Tusker Lager at hand. I was very impressed with the sheer number and variety of raptors that came down to drink and bathe - some 30 species iirc. Most comical were Secretary birds including a family party that resembled waders immersing themselves above chest height!

Most impressive was a monster-sized (presumably female) Martial Eagle that spent the best part of 2 hours refurbishing itself and was a sight that has left an indelible image on my memory as sadly the slides i took were left behind during a house move. Kenya, certainly then, is the best country i have ever visited for birds of prey - they were everywhere! In addition there was a group of ringers that were trapping Wintering birds and were head-scratching when i happened to pop mine in.....they finally nailed the little Brown sprite with the proportionately long driller as a Basra Reed Warbler - a species that i had never heard of and poss a 1st for Kenya! (This was about 1975) They are now proved to be regular winterers in the area i believe.

Good birding -
