First moth of the month was a Small Quaker which flew into my bedroom last night and promptly dissappeared till I found it on my windowsill this morning. It was too dull for photos unfortunately.

I ordered my moth trap nearly a month ago now however due to many problems along the way I still haven't got it :-C hopefully it will arrive soon and I can start trapping!

It's still cold here, last night about 3 degrees. I trapped 5 moths in two traps. Very nice to see Yellow Horned again, my favourite of the early species. Others were Chestnut, Satellite and two Pale BB.
The forecast for tonight seems very good, cloud cover and 9 degrees, all three of my traps out!

Lastnight was very windy and wet. I also could not get to the trap until 3pm as the gate to the private estate was locked for some reason. They must have forgotten about me. Anyway I wasn't expecting much but was very surprised with the following:

Early Grey 1
Brindled Pug 17
Common Quaker 27
Hebrew Character 7
Diurnea fagella 1
Pale Pinion 1
Clouded Drab 1
Chestnut 3

I still have a few IDs to resolve...

In total we had 58 moths and 8 species

Image2: Brindled Pug
Image3: Pale Pinion

Cheers,

Seán

Gave my moth trap a go last night. Still some snow on the ground- but spring is on its way here in the Norwegian mountains too. The temperature stayed on the warm side of zero all trough the night- and there was 3 moths in the trap in the morning:

Rannoch Sprawler 1
Satellite 1
Agonopterix heracliania/ciliella 1

A very good catch here for me last night. I trapped for much longer than earlier this year, until 5am. I usually turn the traps off before midnight in the early spring. I guess that many species fly later in the night. It was cloudy, a little windy and about 4-5 degrees.

28 moths caught and 5 new species for the year:

8 Yellow-horned
8 Chestnut
4 Oak Beauty [nfy]
2 March Moth
1 Pale Brindled Beauty
1 Pale Pinion
1 Hebrew Character [nfy]
1 Small Quaker [nfy]
1 Early Grey [nfy]

Was Hiking in the Pennines last night & when offered a [Free?!] pitch at a campsite decided to go where all good moths do.. the toilet block.

1x Pine Beauty
1x Clouded Drab
1x Small Quaker (with a large parasite)
1x engrailed
1x very dark march moth
1x yet to be deciphered, some sort of carpet.
2x early thorn
& 3 Peacock butterflies

Cant seem to upload photos today :-C

Despite a very warm day I had a fairly small catch last night. I did however get my first streamer of the year. And a dark form of Diurnea fagella which is far less frequent here.
The pugs were all brindled except for one which I'll have to ask for help on elsewhere.
Ken

Very warm here too. I had with the actinic last night - three NFY's amongst 30 moths, 12 species:

The Fern (nfy) it seems very early.
Pebble Prominent (nfy)
Oak Beauty (nfy) - only the second I have ever had in the garden.

The previous night I found a Dark Sword Grass by the MV trap with a very small catch.

Very few moths last night but one was a garden first... and what a moth!

Also of minor note a Diamond-back Moth.
