Depends on where you live, in one place you get a good spread of so-called declining species, in another you get none of the "declining" species.
I respect the decline in some areas is very steep, but then in others there is growth.
Here the nightjars are in steady growth, and have been for some time. The nightingale, and woodlark are barely holding their own, but the skylark which had been on the downward spiral is now just starting to come up again.
This year has seen the odd sighting of the hobby, goshawk, and peregrine, and another upward climb of the buzzard.
Sparrows are slowly in the ascendant here, but about ten miles away it is in descent.
The biggest problem is the timing of surveys, though they give a vague idea of the trends in population, they cannot be justified in declaring the serious rise and fall in bird populations, unless carried out on the same site for many years.
This may seem petty, but was this taken on the survey in January?
