It's not an area that's particularly well covered by modern guides I'm afraid.

Birds & Mammals of the Falkland Islands.

A Complete Guide to Antarctic Wildlife The Birds and Marine Mammals of the Antarctic Continent and the Southern Ocean.

These are without a doubt the best guides to this region.

Birds of Chile by Helm also covers the Falklands as well as the Antarctic Peninsula. I found this to be a good guide to use in the Falklands, especially in combination with this one (which is primarily a checklist, but has some good information on current status of birds):

When are you coming to this part of the world.

The below will be all you need if visiting as a passenger on a crew vessel.

Thank you all! I guess I'll choose a couple rather than a single book :)

According to the websites, the Princeton one has 48 more pages but Helm has one more colour plate...The information may not be accurate though.

I think I remember this has been discussed before and the end result was no real difference between the two version. I have used the Princeton version in Chile and has not felt I missed anything.

Thank you! :) I'll get the Princeton. It's easier to buy from Amazon.ca.

Hi - to clarify, Helm and PUP editions of Birds of Chile are identical.

Pearman and Areta's FG to Birds of Argentina will also cover the Falklands. (Publishes next year). Thanks, Jim
