Masked Flowerpiercer Ecuador? (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone,

A few days ago I saw this flowerpiercer in north-west Ecuador at an altitude of 1300 meters. I think it is a Masked Flowerpiercer, however my field guide says it doesn't occur that low. Can anyone help?

Looks okay for Masked Flowerpiercer to me.

HBW says "Humid montane forest (cloudforest) and forest borders and in smaller numbers to tree-line, where occurs in elfin forest and low shrubs. Recorded at 1450–3600 m, mainly c. 1800–3300 m."
so your 1300 m is a bit low for it.

How confident are you on the altitude?

similar elevation numbers found in neotropical birds online. They do remark on elevational migration having been reported. Did you check how close you are to other reports on ebird?
