This April there will be a special trip for birders wishing to experience the spectacular Yellow Sea spring migration along China's east coast. It's run by the best local birders, including the brilliant Li Jing, of the local NGO, Spoon-billed Sandpiper in China (SBS in China) and Shanghai's finest, Zhang Lin. As well as seeing lots of very special species, the trip will raise money to contribute to the conservation effort. As many people will know, the critical inter-tidal mudflats of this area are disappearing fast, with as much as 70% already reclaimed and several projects in the pipeline for additional reclamation. There is a huge international conservation effort underway to try to protect what is left and stabilise the declining populations of many species of shorebird. One part of the strategy is to secure a joint China/S Korea/N Korea nomination as a World Heritage Site to raise awareness at the highest levels of government about the global importance of this coastline. SBS in China, led by Li Jing, is one of the most important local players. So by joining this trip, you'll not only have a brilliant time and experience migration on a stunning scale in the company of the best local guides, but you'll also be contributing to the conservation effort.
