Swarovski DF 8x30W O GA STP (1 Viewer)

Hello Holger,
If everything works properly, the photo is attached,
Gijs
Let us know how the transmission spectra analysis comparison with the CF 8x30 goes. That should be interesting to see if the 830 military Habicht is optimized for military use. Didn't Swarovski supply the military with these when Zeiss couldn't keep up with the demand?

8x30 habicht ga

The 830 military came in today and a quick comparison shows that the CF version has a close focus range of 2 meters and the IF has 4 meters. Same DOF, FOV and (lack of) sharpnes in the edges.
For my eyes the 30IF is also sharper, but......it could be me. The reason could be that each eye is focussed seperately (and therefore more finetuned) and the CF is some kind of "compromise". The latest intell from Swaro is, that there is no optical quality difference (except for the reticle) between the CF and IF.

Jan: Any chance of getting an 8x30 habicht ga, either cf or if? Is it possible to ship over here to the U.S.? Cost? Thanks again, loved the tour of your store!

Hello Karmantra,

Swarovski has them in stock. Production year 2011.
Please try SONA and/or Proud Papa first and if that doesn't work out I'll send you a sample in the configuration you want. Just PM me.
The first sample is at Gijs van Ginkel for spectra tests so we can see if there is any difference in regards to the civil model. After that it will go to Wim de Boer (former Zeiss repairman) who now runs his own optical repairshop ( www.dekijkerspecialist.nl ). He will place the objective tubes from the IF on a 10x40GACF, collimate them correctly and pressure them again. Let's see what that will turn out to be. By that time (third week of April) I do hope to get an answer from Swaro Austria if they will or won't do the job.
In the first case full warranty will be in place:t:
So folks start hassle SONA!!

If Austria turns out negative and Wim succeeds I'll start selling them in two versions: the original IF with reticle and the CF without reticle.

I promised Henry the first sample so he can put his findings on BF.

There are certain models, like the SLC 10x56, the Extendable Spotting Scopes, and some rifle scopes that just cannot be ordered by dealers in the U.S.
I just got off the phone with Swarovski North America and the CF 8x30 Habicht GA is one of those models.
Oh well.

Gordon: Bummer! May have to look outside of North America. I assume that the SLC 8x56 HD is also on the exclusions list.

I wonder why they aren't available in America?

I think the answer is very low sales numbers, why bother with most US
dealers not selling any of those products.

Swarovski has been selling these sizes for many years, and they have tried and know the US market.

Can I ask if any import/US Customs taxes were applied to the items you ordered?

Thanks!

No, there were no taxes. It was a new $800 item. Shipping was around $40 as I recall. I've purchased and returned items (including from German Amazon site) without any surprises. Except returning something to Germany takes a long time. Apparently the German inspectors open and examine the contents of every incoming package. The return usually arrives just after you've given up hope :>)

Best,
Jerry

The 8x30 military habicht came in today from my friend from Sweden and i set the focus at the approx 1000 meters. I was anxious to know what is the minimum distance in which the binoculars does not require a new focus adjust. At 45-50 meters the image was still in focus Not bad at all, but not 15 meters like somebody claim , The bino is made in 2011 new in box with accessories. At the beginning the reticle was a little annoying but after a couple hours becoming barely visible and i was able to focus more on the image.

Also the price was great , 700 euro including transport. It was a dusty and polluted day but the image appear great ,bright clear and with fantastic definition. Some problem with veiling glare especially at the sunset but in approx 3 hours of use in 90 percent of the situations the image was more than satisfactory

OK, the results from Gijs show that there is no difference in transmission spectra between the civil and the military 8x30 Habicht.
The 10x40 and the 8x30 are now on their way for conversion to Wim de Boer.
To be continued.
