Hi. I've just acquired a pair of hilkinson argyle 8x40s. nice pair of glasses but the fold down eyecups are split so I had to removed them. Now i'm after a new set which will probably be difficult

Hi Bill, finding rubber cups is difficult, I have found that many Japanese made vintage binoculars have rubber eye cups that fit various other Japanese made brand names, I have taken the cups from old damaged Swifts before and found they fit others and vise versa. It may be that they have to be rubber in order to fit on the ocular, but IF you don't need them to be rubber, there is a chap on the auction site where you probably bought your Hilkinson? , who makes replacement hard plastic cups to order, he would need your old rubber cup as a template, They would be hard plastic cups but identical in every other respect. I think he is very reasonable, he made me a set of cups for my Bushnell for £18 perfect fit. His name is on there jameslee, but you can find him by just searching for binocular eye cups.
Hope helpful.
Ben
