Common birds but AF on d500 very good.
Blackbird shot shows that I don't need to fine tune my 200-500 lens !
I'm still playing with group or single af and at the moment its single for standing birds and group for BIFs
First tests didn't come out to well but these are much better .

Af test with little grebe coming straight towards me.
Taken with 200-500 + 1.4x

Great AF clearly! What's your impression of low ISO shots? Some people are saying the D7200 has better IQ at low ISO.

Here's a couple more from today with low iso , one ( blackcap ) really good , little grebe not so sure .
Blackcap at 280 iso
grebe at 560 iso
Note that grebe was taken with extender on -is this the difference ?
At times I'm just not sure what's going on .On friday it was overcast and although iso was quite low pics looked grainy so I'm still working out if its me or camera.

photos are over sharpened,
halos around the edges,
probably why the noise is so visible

strange , they didn't look oversharpened on my comp but i pulled it back so how are these ?

Definitely improved, particularly the grebe.

Judging by the halo at the top of the head and back of the Blackcap that one is still processed too aggressively.

Play around with different RAW converters. There seem to be some differences between how well they work at the moment.

At least that's what I've been told by a friend who got his D500 a couple of days ago.

Can't believe you're selling it already, that very slight noise is down to your post processing (IMO) because sharpening looks fine with me.

Preferring d810 at the moment - definitely me but that's how it is .

FF is always superior in IQ. So I don't think it's surprising that you prefer the D810.

21MP on the DX-format is pretty demanding for a lens,
and adding a TC14 to the 200-500/5.6 will be even more so,
so I doubt that you will see any real resolution benefit with that combo using the D500 over the D810 @ 15MP DX.

Also bokeh will be nicer on FF with a "slow" lens as the 200-500/5.6

If AF is as good on the D500 as on the D5,
it might be a reason to use it though, and also FPS.

What are your impressions on AF compared to the D810?
