Had a week of struggling with the Olympus, i could not get any decent BIF shots, found out it uses PDAF for C-AF focusing and like a DSLR it can need AF fine tune.
Gone back to S-AF for everything until i can get it sorted.

Some S-AF results

The fact that the PDAF points are on the actual sensor and not on a separate sensor like in dSLR would theoretically mean that the need for AF fine tune should be very small???

It would seem it still can need it, i could hardly get a decent image with C-AF.

After a few false starts, i think ime getting the hang of the EM1MK11 and 100-400, thank god for the pigeons to practice BIF

Two very nice shots

Thanks, conditions weren’t great, but quite pleased with my results, also salvaged a Crow out of the mist.

Did capture a couple of Rosy Starlings, but not really representative of the capabilities of the lens.

This month I was in Tajikistan and managed a few birding excursion. This include a couple of steep scrambling over rocky and loose slopes in high altitude. I had the G85+100-400 mm with me. I took it in my new backpack (Mindshift Ultralight 16 L), which has a side access pocket fitting the camera perfectly. I can't imagine a better camerera for this type of use, except perhaps a good bridge camera, but certainly I wouldn't take anything bigger.

The picture quality is absolutely acceptable for my standards (I'm mostly after documentation and record shots).

You can see the results in a short report I wrote above in the real birdforum: https://www.birdforum.net/showthread.php?t=363819

Most of the landscape shots are with the G85+12-60 kit lens (a few are with mobile phones). As I was often close to the Afghan border, the 100-400 was also at times useful for some close ups of people of the other side (e.g. the caravan picture in the first post).
