Very distant through a heat haze. Any thoughts (on the bird, not the phenomena of heat haze in Scotland)?

Doubt you'll get a definite ID, but I would suggest Redshank.

Redshank feels like a good shout but you'll never be certain from these pics. Any extra details from observing the bird in the field?

It looks quite robust to me, roundish body more reminiscent of a Ruff?

The experienced birder I was with was leaning towards Redshank. I was seeing a lot of white in the under parts though, and couldn't pick out any red/orange in the legs. There also seemed to be some black in the face, but at that distance, I'm really not sure. Knew it would be a long shot (no pun intended) from those photos, but thanks to all for trying.

the apparent dark head leans me to ruff also possibly male in transition plumage?
