This area has a nice mountain scenery around this lake. I remenber seeing e.g. Osprey, Herons.

For Bold Eagles a whale watching tour from Tofino is recommended. I saw different eagles flying a one eating big fish on the beach.
But this is not near, rather a complete weekend trip or longer.

Best regards
Dieter

Calgary is in an excellent location for birding. Within the city there are a number of really good natural areas like Weaselhead, Fish Creek P.P., Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, just to name a few (there was a good bird finding guide but it has been out of print for years now). Then you can drive east across the (pothole) prairies to Dinosaur P.P. and Lake Newell. You can go South to the mountains at Waterton P.P., West to Kananaskis Country, Banff, and Jasper for some subalpine species.
There are websites for Weaselhead, for the Calgary Field Naturalist's Society (CFNS who lead birding outings around the city several times each week) and a website for locally important sightings, Albertabird.

Hi,

If you can find the book titled, "The Birder's Guide to Vancouver and the Lower Mainland" by the Vancouver Natural History Society. It has great information for diring in the Vancouver area. The Reifel Bird Sanctuary listed above by JimTFoto is one of the main birding areas here. I have taken a few people from the U.K. birding during their visits. I'll be away on vacation in Scotland and France from late July to mid-August, but if I'm available while you're here in Vancouver, I'd be happy to take you birding. Feel free to send me a message. Also, try these websites for info:

Good luck!

Make sure that you find time to drive the Icefields Parkway towards Jasper. I think mthat's the right name for the road although it's been a while since I was there.
You'll see elk, mountain goats and sheep for sure and a good chance for bear.
