Central Kansas Sparrow size bird (1 Viewer)

Hi:
Last fall I surprised a bird that was feeding or nesting in the 7' Heavenly Bamboo (not really a bamboo) at the front of the house. The bird flew up against the front porch soffit area and had trouble finding his way out. He was well lit by the front porch light but he was always in motion as I watched. He appeared to about the size of a sparrow or just a little larger, his shape was stubby like a sparrow. He was a fairly uniform medium to dark gray perhaps with a little brown it, and I remember darker banding on the head but I cant tell you where now. He had a distinctly yellow or orange yellow beak. I saw him again later in the "bamboo" from the kitchen window so I suspect he was feeding on the red berries. Any help is appreciated.
