Cheers for that I looked it up and one american book said American Pipit and the other said Water Pipit so I checked description and chose Water. I had a great time and I am so jealous of you guys over there, not only for variety but numbers. See you next yearo:D

"Water Pipit” is the former AOU name; the current AOU name is "American Pipit”. In the UK/Europe, they are called "Buff-bellied Pipit”.

Quite a nice Florida list by the way! Especially if you were not birding full time. A few birds there I would like to see.

Cheers,
Jim

That's a great list :) It seems you saw more than I did and I was there for six months! Though I wasn't always birding.

I had to laugh at your comment about the boat-tailed grackles though, it's so true!

Great list. This is now really whetting my appetite for my family holiday to Orlando at Easter.

Whilst essentially a "Disney" trip I have persuaded the other half to have trips to places like Gatorland & Merrit Island. We were thinking about doing the air boat trip at Boggey Creek, so the Snail Kite sighting has convinced me it'll be a good idea!!

Will be taking the camera & zoom lens with me to see if I can get some decent shots!!

Richard

Would the snipe in Florida not be Wilson's rather than Common seen in the UK

That's another old name (or is it old taxonomy?). In any event, in the US, used to be called Wilson's, then changed to Common, then changed back to Wilson's, which is the current name in the US.

Best,
Jim

I have seen Snail Kites at Joe Overstreet but this time at Boggey Creek Airboats the guide got so close to a few of these great birds you would get amazing shots. He stirred up the water so the Snails could be seen and the Snail Kites followed him. My video camera footage is so close i had to zoom out,.........
