Golden Eagles are satisfying anywhere, but particularly so in the east! Nice work!

Alex,

In West Virginia's eastern panhandle, Golden Eagles are relatively uncommon, but regular, in the winter. In my part of the state (north-central), they're practically non-existent. Always a great bird to see.

On my way to work this morning, I stopped by an area of open grassland and picked up a new bird for the year.

96. Killdeer

And on my way home from work I stopped at the same place and picked up another new bird.

97. Short-eared Owl

10 February 2015

As I was leaving the house this morning I saw a busy little bird in the treetop through our upstairs window. And it's a lifer! One of the benefits of having a modest life list...

Brussels (Belgium)

World life list: 396 (Short-toed Treecreeper, Brussels, Belgium; February 2015)
Belgium life list: 74 (Short-toed Treecreeper, Brussels, Belgium; February 2015)

I'm at 180 species so far, only in California. I'm hoping to get to 400 this year (got to about 425 last year). I'll start posting on this thread from now on but wont post the first 180 since that would take up a lot of room.

Some highlights - Roseate Spoonbill, Harris's Sparrow, Eastern Phoebe, California Gnatcatcher, Eurasian Wigeon, Lesser Yellowlegs (managed to avoid seeing this in 2014, despite trying several times), and Yellow-headed Blackbird.

71 Long Eared Owl
72 Common Skylark
73 Northern Lapwing
74 Green Sandpiper
75 Greater White Fronted Goose
76 Common Crane A skein of about 150 flew overhead on the way back fron Steinhorst the evening
