A couple of hours after work today........


Migrants........


2 White Wagtail passed through, ( 2017 arrival date 06/04/17 ).


1 Mediterranean Gull, was noted amongst the Black Headed Gull colony.


1 Great White Egret was recorded as a 'flyover'.


2 Cetti's Warbler were heard.

1 Tree Pipit, ( 2017 arrival date 19/04/17 ).


Pools........ 27 Tufted Duck, 4 Little Grebe, 10 Mallard, 6 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 8 Gadwall, and 1 Teal.


Black Headed Gull colony held 300+ birds.


1 Great White Egret, and 2 Black Swan, were recorded as 'flyovers'.


3 Cetti's Warbler were heard.


8 Swallow, 3 Mistle Thrush, and 2 Grey Wagtail passed through.

Pools.......3 Coot, 37 Tufted Duck, 4 Gadwall, 10 Canada Goose, 6 Mallard, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Teal, and 2 Moorhen.


Black Headed Gull colony remains at 300+ birds.


2 Black Swan, 1 Great White Egret, 4 Avocet, 2 Stonechat, 6 Swallow, 4 Cetti's Warbler, 3 Lesser Redpoll, and 1 Common Sandpiper, were also noted.

Pools......48 Tufted Duck, 18 Mallard, 13 Gadwall, 20+ Canada Goose, 6 Coot, 3 Teal, 2 Great Crested Grebe, and 2 Oystercatcher.


3 Cetti's Warbler were heard.


Birds noted as 'flyovers' or passing through.......1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Great Spotted Woodpecker, 3 Kestrel, 20+ Linnet, 1 Jay, 5 Swallow, 1 Great White Egret, 3 Spotted Redshank, 1 Sand Martin, 2 Bullfinch, 1 Merlin, and 1 Tree Pipit.

Other notable birds.......2 Barn Owl, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 3 Common Whitethroat, 1 Jay, 1 Tree Pipit, and 7 Wheatear ( which included 2 possible Greenland type birds ).

The resident pair of breeding Kestrel, were noted back at their traditional breeding site.


The Wren's, are incubating their eggs in the Bird Hide.


Black Headed Gull colony remains stable.

Pools.......13 Gadwall, 35 Tufted Duck, 26 Mallard, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Coot, 20+ Canada Goose, 2 Oystercatcher, and 4 Shelduck.


21 Common Tern, were noted around the 'Rafts'.


Birds noted as 'flyovers' or as passing through......1 Mediterranean Gull, 2 Great White Egret, 2 Black Swan, 8 Swallow, 22 Black Tailed Godwit, 1 Whimbrel, and 1 White Wagtail.


Other notable birds.......An overnight 'fall' of 15+ Reed Warbler, was noted in the riverside footpath reedbeds, also 2 Sedge Warbler, 2 Grasshopper Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Common Whitethroat, 3 Wheatear, and 3 Cetti's Warbler, were noted nearby.

40+ Pink Footed Goose, 1 Great White Egret, and 9 Avocet passed through.


Other notable birds.......4 Wheatear, 3 Sedge Warbler, 2 Cetti's Warbler, 2 Grasshopper Warbler, 1 Lesser Whitethroat, 4 Common Whitethroat, 6 Reed Warbler, ( most of yesterday's newly arrived birds, have now moved on ), 2 Stonechat, 18 Swallow, and a very welcome 2 Sand Martin, ( extremely scarce so far this Spring ).

Pools.........1 Avocet, ( a very good record for the pools, with the higher than usual water levels, being the likely contributing factor ), 14 Mallard, 3 Shelduck, 1 Coot, 2 Moorhen, 7 Gadwall, 1 Great Crested Grebe, 2 Oystercatcher, and 2 Grey Heron.


1 Common Sandpiper, was noted in the riverside footpath gulley's.

A very short visit today, to primarily check on the progress of the highly anticipated arrival of a deluge of Common Tern on site, which by the week's end, should number in excess of 500+ birds,..... currently revealed, zero birds present.


2 Avocet, were notable on the pools.


Birds noted as passing through......2 Whimbrel, and 1 Sand Martin.


Other notable birds......2 Cetti's Warbler.

Pools.........2 Great Crested Grebe, 6 Coot, 2 Little Grebe, 2 Moorhen, 24 Tufted Duck, 5 Mallard, and 4 Gadwall.

Common Tern number's, still remain at only c20 birds, but it was very heart-warming to see the birds that were present, dropping down into the Breeding Rafts, carrying some very good sized fish.
