Was it smaller than other LBBGs present - appears to be in Photo 2?

Was there duplication in the Shoveler numbers?

The gull did appear to be smaller and it's worth looking out for in the roost.

I don't think there was duplication in the Shoveler numbers.

At Flashes update. little Stint. dunlin.common sand green sand. Snipe 11. Avocet. lapwing 100+. teal 75. Shoveler 4 2. peregrine. buzzard kestrel. sprawl all taking it in turn to flush the waders. LITTLE GULL. redstart imm on fox fence at back of meadow. chiffchaff everywhere. hirundines c35. Linnet 10. Cetti's singing.

Conditions look extremely promising early on Saturday with strong South Easterlies overnight (following several days of similar coming from the Continent) plus rain from midnight until 8am. Not only are waders on the move but also several reports of Black Tern in the country plus good numbers of traditional drift migrants such as Barred Warbler, Red-backed Shrike and Wryneck (with a number in unusual inland / west side of the country locations). High numbers of commoner migrants such a Whinchat, Pied and Spotted Fly and Redstarts are also present along the east coast

The next 24 hours could be very interesting; if you are able to get down to the reserve tomorrow there could be a few surprises awaiting.

As ever the weather forecast was wrong. heavy showers continued till 11 am. In between them passerines ventured out. but the bulk didn't do so until 10.45. The hedges along the southern bank of the Sailing pool held a good variety of mostly warblers and Tits. The hedgerow to the left of the sewage works also had a few species including redstart. But by far the best today we're the hedges to the south and west of the main hide. Here probably 200 birds or so we're seen. These include Goldfinch 70. Linnet 60. greenfinch 10. Reed bunting 8. Plenty of Tits. and warblers - lesser whitethroat 2. Common whitethroat 2. blackcap 5. sedge warbler. chiffchaff 10. also a few swallows perched up.
Overall the totals for the whole of the Flashes were:-
redstart 2. treecreeper. lesser whitethroat 4. Whitethroat 2. blackcap 15. sedge warbler 3. Reed warbler. cetti's w. Willow warbler. chiffchaff 25. goldcrest 2. pied wag 8. grey wag 2. and Dave J had a flock of 30+ siskin. Starling 200. Reed bunting 12
