Hello! Today in Shanghai I saw my first Hoopoe, flying around the city! Didn't know they came here, checked in my bird book and it said they migrate to south-east Asia in winter. It was beautiful!
Hoopoe is a bird I was really looked forward to seeing, and it seemed to take a long time to see - especially long for such a distinctive bird. I'm very happy every time I see one because they are still not really common for me.
I am lucky enough to live in South East Spain and during the Autumn (Fall) and Spring Hoopoes are seen frequently. They appear to be solitary birds, I have never seen a big group of them. Today whilst out walking the dog I saw four of them. They appear to avoid human contact as I always see them flying away! (Or are they trying to tell me something?)
Regards, Tony.
