Hi we saw this at Lower Bittell Reservoir, by the canal, today. Worcester, UK.

Is it a 5 spot burnet moth? Is it common here I do not think I have seen one before?

It's either that or Narrow-bordered 5-spot. Was the area you found it limestone or chalk? If not it's going to be Narrow-bordered.
 
I don’t associate the area with chalk! I have posted it on the Bittell thread so will ask there - thanks :)
