Anti-social (yet intelligent) pigeons (1 Viewer)

Hello,

To set the scene I've got several feeders, but the one I will speak about today is one outside my bedroom window as seen in the attachment below.

generally speaking I do not like to discriminate against birds and up until recently I've been appreciating the presence of pigeons who would quite often tidy up and pick up all the seeds that the little birds drop.

However, the pigeons recently have become quite aggressive to each other and started to engage in fights. They also get spooked quite easily (annoying if you're taking photos of the little birdies) and for some reason their wing flapping is surprisingly loud (even compared to other larger birds).

To make it even better, some geniuses have even figured out how to help themselves to the feeder, which is really taking the piss now :eek!: Although, I do appreciate their intelligence :)

I have thought that I could potentially instal a few wires/strings going from one end to the other to make it uncomfortable for them to sit on the sill, but I do not really want to prevent the smaller birds or even an occasional Blackbird, Starling or even a Seagull (they're surprisingly well behaved) from sitting down.

Anyone had a similar issue?

There are lots of feeders with screens to keep larger birds from hogging the goodies. Other designs have a weighted gate that shuts if too big a bird, or a squirrel alights. ( http://www.duncraft.com/Absolute-II-Squirrel-Proof-Feeder )

Overall though, these seem like overkill. Your pigeons will soon get over their testosterone craze, so no need to fortify what you have, a very friendly setup. At most maybe remove the perches from your tube feeders, that does not impact the small guests, but helps discourage starlings from settling in.

I don't know if it's testosterone kicking in but the Woodies who hang around here have been having very loud 'woo hoo hoo' contests from dawn to dusk this last week.

I like them but they are beginning to put a strain on our relationship.
