I wouldn't put this 'up there' with some of the near professional shots but I rather like this one I took of some purple sandpipers because to me it captures the essence of their resilience in the face of the sea.
And a couple of ravens, also in Cornwall.

I enjoy trying to get pictures of birds in action such as flying, foraging, etc. also in their natural habitat. Thanks for sharing your favorites.

First some American birds from a trip to Yellowstone, since the OP is from that side of the pond:

Cedar Waxwing

Mountain Bluebird

Western Tanager

American Dippers

Clark's Nutcracker

Now some European stuff. Some of this is photographic hide stuff but not all (none of the American pictures were, all of those were ambling about in the open with a camera). I also like action shots. :t:

Jefferson Shank/Nutcracker/Surreybirder/John/Andy - all very nice. A request to name the species though. I think my favourite so far is John's European Bee-eater. I struggled to get down to five whilst waiting up for a boxing bout last night but now the precedent is set for multiple posts, I'll get it down to 15 when home later concentrating on flight/action.

All the best

...

Clark's Nutcracker
Smart pic! On a Whitebark Pine Pinus albicaulis :t:

DYK: a Clark's Nutcracker will collect up to 100,000 seeds out of Whitebark Pine cones in an autumn, and hide them scattered over an area 30 km x 30 km for a winter & spring food supply - and then refind ALL of them, up to 8 months later, and even when they're buried under a metre of snow . . . :eek!:

Want to redefine the meaning of 'birdbrain'? o:D

OK - my efforts trying mainly to get some action photos counting down from 15 to my favourite....

All photos were taken hand held with a Canon EOS 5D Mark III & Sigma 50-500mm zoom - save for 11 & 10 where a Canon EOS 1100D body was used.

15 - Hawk Owl creeping along a snow covered branch (07.12.13) - Helsinki, Finland – f/6.3, 1/1000th & ISO3200

14 – Bridled Terns floating on plastic with reflection (09.04.17) – Persian Gulf, Kuwait - f/6.3, 1/1250th & ISO125

13 – Thick-billed Lark staring down the lens (07.02.20) – Hameishar Plain, Israel - f/6.3, 1/1000th & ISO640

12 – Spotted Crakes playing with weed with reflection (10.04.17) – Jahra Pools, Kuwait - f/6.3, 1/640th &
ISO400

11 – Little Gull dip feeding (21.05.12) – Kuusamo, Finland - f/9, 1/500th & ISO800 (Canon EOS 1100D)

All the best

Sorry, didn't specify kit: all the ones I put up are Canon 7D Mk II with a 500mm f4 Mk I on the front.

For the last year I've almost exclusively used a 100-400 Mk II, still on the ol' 7DII: the 500 f4 is now reserved for special occasions/when i know I'm not walking far.
