Pentax *ist DS firmware update

There's a few of us out there, not many I know, but in case any DS owners didn't know, there's a V2.00 firmware update available. This adds some very useful extra features, certainly more than a minor tweak.

Update available from:

Changes described here:

One minor issue worth noting, before you upgrade, is that after changing the firmware the camera appears as a “fresh out of the box” item. All the settings are at the default values and the date, time and time zone will all need resetting. It’s probably worth noting any settings you have in the menu that are at other than default values before doing the upgrade.

Also, something that appears to have upset some users, is that after the upgrade, the file numbering is reset to IMGP0000. There is a work around for this issue, namely:
a) Before you do the upgrade, take a photo and make a note of the number.
b) Upgrade the firmware. Take another photo.
c) Transfer/view this later photo taken in stage b) onto your computer and rename the file from IMGP0001 to be the number of the file/photo you took in stage a) +1
d) Put this renumbered file back on the SD card and put it in the camera. Take another photo. This should continue the numbering from where you left off before the update.

Make sure you are using a set of batteries “fresh out of the charger” before updating, batteries dying in mid update can kill the camera.

Regards,

Duncan.
