Beautiful your photography, congratulations. As I wrote in a comment above I will make an effort and I will raise the amount necessary to buy 7d2 and 400mm. I made this decision because I will go a lot and any gram in the minus is an advantage, I will be able to use a converter and this is also an advantage. I still have knowledge using the canon so I can borrow pieces from them if it will be necessary.
I want you to have extraordinary snapshots this year too!

Thanks Greendoom. The kit you are going to buy will give great results and I wish you every success with it.
Happy new year and successful birding.

The 7D2 and 400 F5.6 L will give you an excellent birding setup. We can squabble all day about who makes the best cameras, an though I am a Canon user, I believe that Canon do not necessarily make the best bodies! However what Canon does do is make the best range of lenses for what you are after in my opinion.

In it's price range there is no equivalent to the Canon 400 F5.6 L. There are a number of lenses that cover this focal length but none that give both the IQ and fast AF that Birding requires in my experience.

In your shoes the 7D2 and 400 F5.6 L would be a good choice in my opinion.

That's a stunning gallery !
Some amazingly detailed captures aided by superb light of course but that's one talented photographer. I wonder how big the crops are?

I've been using the Canon 7D2 and 400mm f5.6 combination since the camera came out.
I love the lightning fast AF and 10 fps.
Shooting in tropical rainforest is the ultimate test, and I get some good results, but the noise is often a bit of a problem. I keep it limited to ISO800 and hope that at the slower speed a rapid burst will get me a sharp one in the middle. It does work quite a bit of the time, but not always.
An improved 7D3 would tempt me if there was a significant improvement, but I would really like one of the rumoured new long lenses at an affordable price and longer reach with IS.

Here are a few photos taken in rainforest in Honduras in November.
Golden fronted Woodpecker, House Wren, Buffy crowned Wood Partridge, Collared Aracari and Summer Tanager.
