On the 11 Aug 2017 while walking Blagdon lake I had a close encounter with a Merlin has any one else seen this bird in the region:

Nice spot! Unfortunately, It's the only UK falcon I haven't spotted in Somerset yet. Perhaps I will have to take a trip up to Blagdon...

Hi.

Spotted one at RSPB Greylake it took a snipe just too the left of the hide but was unable to lift it so ate it there and then.

I have also seen one at the RSPB West Sedgemoor reserve on the levels near curry Rivel.

But unfortunately this is a closed reserved they but do the odd guided walk on there now and again just keep checking the events page.

It is a fantastic reserve well worth booking onto a trip.

Hi Moggies and welcome to BirdForum. I've seen plenty of Hobby in Somerset but have yet to find Merlin. I'll have to keep my eye out the week after next when I'm back over.

Both M and F Merlin on Hay Moor this morning.
Male flew past us as we walked along the public footpath overlooking the moor to the west of Meare Green, around 10am.
Female was perched in trees as we walked off the moor towards the Willows and Wetlands visitor centre around 10.45am.
