Beginner's Basic question (1 Viewer)

Hi,
I want to make sure I get my eBird listings correct. What is the difference to a "/" verses a "x"?
Sorry for such a basic question.
Thanks.

Assuming that you are talking about the species, an "x" indicates a hybrid, "Mallard x American Black Duck" for example.

A "/" indicates that it is one of two species that you cannot determine, like "Sharp-shinned/Cooper's Hawk" or "Downy/Hairy Woodpecker".

The other place that you can use an x is in place of an actual count, to indicate presence. This should be avoided. It is better to take an educated guess.
