Smartspot Magnetic Phone Adapter (1 Viewer)

SMARTSPOT

Well-known member
Hi Fellow Birders

I have posted some Bird images recently under my name SMARTSPOT
From your comments the images seem to be good and I am delighted with the positive feedback
All of these images were taken using iPhone 6, Scope and the magnetic Adapter
I have invented to attach the phone
I would like to manufacture more and perhaps sell to anyone interested.
I can make the SMARTSPOT Adapter to fit any Smartphone
If anybody is interested please leave a message

Many thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,

I would like to manufacture more and perhaps sell to anyone interested.

It seems that photography is a field where, if you have a good product, you can actually produce and sell specialist products by yourself.

I have once bought a special adapter that wasn't available anywhere else from a guy in the US who manufactured and marketed them all by himself, and here in Germany there was a small family business that had invented a very smart rapid-access backpack that was quite successful for a while.

If you adapter lends itself to manufacture by 3D printing, you might even be able to "outsource" production to a commercial service.

On the other hand, phonescoping adapters are a very competetive field, so you'll probably be up against well-developed products that have all the cost benefits of mass production.

I have actually designed and 3D printed a couple of adapters myself, but that's more of a hobby thing for me ... have a look at this:

Thanks Henning
Your invention looks good and I’m sure it works perfectly Have you got a Patent

I’ve made my adapter very simple and most birders I’ve spoke to say it is very easy to use.
The phone is placed in a magnetic case and then added to the adapter or removed whenever.
The adapter stays permanent on the scope.
Viewing your object is still accessible (which is most important) without having to look through the phone screen

Which one? :)

Patents are quite expensive, you'd probably have to earn a ton of money before these pay off. As I only design for fun, I can't afford that ... not that I'd count any of the devices I linked as an invention.

Sounds good! Not sure it's patent-worthy, though. In Germany, there's the "utility model", which is sort of a cheaper, less protective patent variant, but I don't know if anything like that exists in the UK.

Henning
