Another trip to New York (1 Viewer)

KEVIN BROWN

Casual Birder
Thanks again to everyone who provided me with information for my trip to New York. I am returning to Big Apple for 5 days towards the end of August, and hopefully will have a little more time to do some birding, so if any one has any additional information it would be much appreciated. I will visit Central Park for certain, but may also have time for Jamica Bay depending on how I can get there, so if anyone can advise me of my options and costs involved I would be most grateful.

This is exactly the time of year and duration of my forst trip to New York - full report on my website if interested, see below.

PS to get to Jamaica Bay, dead cheap - the subway goes there, allowing for a bit of a walk form the station.

I would be appreciate any current news of the wildlife in Central Park, any kind of creatures from insects to mammals , areas good to see Dragonflies and Butterflies would be of interest, as would any areas used by Owls for roosting.

Thanks Kevin

Hello Kevin,

As I recall, there is wooden platform, just east of the Hecksher Theatre, on north side of Turtle Pond, which is designated at as a dragonfly observatory. I spotted a belted kingfisher from the spot as well as some raccoons.

Happy bird watching,
Arthur Pinewood :hi:

Hi Kevin
My wife and I have just returned from New Jersey & New York and I am in the middle of collating a report.

I am just starting the New York section but I can also recommend Liberty State Park. I shall finish the report shortly.

Great place for birding and as a tourist.

I celebrated an anniversary in New York earlier this year. If you are on 42nd between 5th and 6th, Bryant Park is worth a look over a cup of coffee. The mailing list below is just what you need (for birds). The other sites might be of some help also especially during migration season.

Amy.
