Tucson Audubon and the American Bird Conservancy are working together to try to buy the Paton's residence in order to save this famous hummingbird magnet. It's the best place in America to see violet crowns.

That would be fantastic if they could swing this. Paton's is one of my favorite "sit and bird" places.

I wish them luck. I signed in and made a donation, as I think anyone who has sat and enjoyed the Paton's feeders over the year.

I was there with a group this May and made a pretty good donation to the sugar fund. While we were there a tour group came and oohed-and-aahed over the hummers for more than an hour. I heard one of them ask their leader about donations, and she said the tour covered it. When they left, I watched her put $2 in for 10 people! I almost said something to her, but those type of people never change.

I've donated. I've spent many a pleasurable hour at the Paton's. Hope they raise enough to keep it going.

While a sale of the property is sad and seems to be the end of an era, it looks like the sale (Tucson Audubon and the American Bird Conservancy) has been successful and will allow birders to continue to visit.
