Pearled Treerunner
Long-tailed Antbird
White-winged Becard
Great Thrush
Spectacled Redstart
Black-crested Warbler

Golden-bellied Grosbeak

Feb. 22, 2003(day 6)

Exciting day! Birding location: Yanacocha(the Inca Ditch) 11,500 feet of elevation(about 3,800m). Actually birding on an old Inca trail with views of volcanoes seemingly close enough to touch. You may be just miles from the equator but in the early morning bring your warm clothing!

Species seen(not previously reported):

Eared Dove
Speckle-faced Parrot(seen at lodge in evening)
Shining Sunbeam
Mountain Velvetbreast
Great Sapphirewing
Buff-winged Starfrontlet
Sword-billed Hummingbird(just unbelieveable!)
Sapphire-vented Puffleg
Black-tailed Trainbearer
Tyrian Metaltail
Rainbow-bearded Thornbill
Bar-bellied Woodpecker
Rufous Antpitta
Unicolored Tapaculo
White-throated Tyrannulet
White-banded Tyrannulet
Slaty-backed Chat-Tyrant
Crowned Chat-Tyrant
Smoky Bush-Tyrant
Red-crested Cotinga
Barred Fruiteater
Brown-bellied Swallow
Rufous Wren
Sedge Wren(seen at lower elevation)
Cinerous Conebill
Blue-backed Conebill
Glossy Flowerpiercer
Black Flowerpiercer
Rufous-chested Tanager
Scarlet-bellied Mountain-Tanager
Hooded Mountain-Tanager
Black-chested Mountain-Tanager
Superciliaried Hemispingus(trips best name in my opinion)
Plain-colored Seedeater
Rufous-naped Brush-Finch

I would recommend a visit to Yanacocha, even if were just for a hike. One thing to keep in mind; Visit early because by mid-day the clouds generally roll in at this elevation.
