Why I love birding - Marshside 21/10/12 (1 Viewer)

Had to pop up to Southport on Sunday for a funeral the following day. I got there shortly before sunset and decided to have a few minutes there.

After sharing a very close view of a Barn Owl in the hide with the RSPB person who was just closing up and marvelling at the huge flock of Pink-footed Geese (my estimate over 10,000 but possibly well over) coming in from the fields I crossed the road to have another look for the owl and found it immediately. I watched through the binoculars as the owl flew straight towards me, with the geese behind settling onto the outer marshes and silhouetted in their thousands against the dusk sky. Blissful.

Sometimes the short visits at the right time are the best

You have just persuade me to go to look for owls this evening, was in two minds, what with travelling to Norfolk at 5am in the morning

Good luck. Might have a look myself later. Back home after about 7 hours driving y'day. Thinking about another Norfolk trip for the weekend though.
