Help with cookies please?

Whenever I go online using IE8, I get lots of cookies that load with my homepage, this even before I visit any sites. Most of these are there to just watch what I do on the net.

Is there anything I can do to help prevent these from loading?

Well you could delete them if you wanted although next time you visit the sites they will recreate themselves. Most cookies are completely harmless cannot carry viruses, and cannot install malware on the host computer. They can be used by spyware to track user's browsing activities though. I clear all mine out on a regular basis via Ccleaner. Some Cookies are helpfull and it pays to put them in the ignore list when cleaning them.
I do not use IE but I am sure you can delete the cookies if you want via Tool> internet options.

Thanks for the help Roy.

I also use CC, that's how I noticed the cookies were there. I know you get them from sites you visit, it's just that so many were loading with my homepage that worried me, perhaps it's just an Orange thing.

Are all the browsers much the same in the way they deal with cookies, are any others better at preventing them?

Barry, in Ccleaner you can go into tools > start-up and disable any you want to stop 'running'

Use Firefox, which has the facility to block or allow cookies with a simple prompt
