Robins

Hi, I’m new to this forum. I have question as I have never seen this before. I have a Robin who built two nests beside each other on a ladder up against a fence. One nest has 1 egg that was laid on May 25 and then the second nest she has laid 1 egg everyday since the 26, as of today there are 4. Is this unusual? Should I move the one egg to the nest that has 4?

Hi there

I would not interfere and avoid touching or hanging around the nest. Your attention on the Robin may attract predators, particularly cats, (curious to see what you are doing!) - the outcome would not be pretty.

Birds sometimes lay unfertilised eggs (where mating was unsuccessful). Its very possible the Robin built the second nest after mating successfully in order to ‘start’ again. Alternatively, the Robin you now see is a different Robin, the first having abandoned the nest before completing the clutch.

Either way, the strongest advice would be to leave well alone and pretend the nest isn't there if you need to walk past it etc

Welcome btw
