New Swarovski binoculars soon (1 Viewer)

There's a teasing Swarovski ad in the new Birdwatching magazine titled 'The New Dimension for Observation; New Binocular Expands the Horizon. From September 2008.' And that's it apart from a web-link, www.swarovskioptik.com/dimensions, that isn't working.

Swarovski's response to the Zeiss FLs and Leica HDs? Maybe just a flouride version of the ELs, or could the tagline be hinting at a bigger field of view?

Sean

This sounds as if it could be the rumoured big (observation) binocular due to be launched by one of the "Big Three" at Photokina in September. Even if it's available then I think most of us will have to save a bit longer!!

John

Maybe. But I'd be a bit surprised if such a specialist instrument got this sort of build up in the popular birding press.

Hi John, Swarovski used to have a large 23x75 and 30x75 Large Binocular listed. I have a price list from quite a few years ago that lists these at $1900 and $2100

Dale, I will try the game when I have more time.
Bob, it's a teaser, nothing more. Swarovski seems to like them, they also had one for the Z6 rifle scope.

Maybe swarovski are going to launch an internal focusing porro prism that has far superior optics to both the EL and SLC lines but at the fraction of the cost?

.........or maybe not:smoke:

Swaro keeping in line with the growing trend for £1000+ binoculars more like!!

Matt

I just hope they haven't outsourced it to some place like PRC. With cost-cutting and poor economy being the key words du jour.

" These binoculars will in every respect, but certainly optically, strike everyone with perplexity ".
Says Gino Merchiers, Swarovski's Benelux manager, in the Dutch RSPB magazine I received today.

About user-friendliness Mr.Merchiers states that, regarding the ease of use of the open-bridge construction of the EL-line, " On that point of user-friendliness one may expect something extra in the new line ".

Two interesting statements, that reveal nothing yet but are fresh ground for further speculations. Especially the last one. "... something extra ".
Is he talking about Image Stabilization?

The new line is presented in Holland on 15 and 16 August.

Maybe the new models are filled with so much hot air that they will float in midair, obviating any necessity to touch them while watching ? ;)

The one thing we can be certain about at this moment is that the marketing department understands the art of hyping to the fullest.

rather unexcited,

Perhaps they will have a dial for the type of bird and they will automatically locate and fix on it.

But even if not, I am sure they will be just as expensive as all the new top of range competition.

And the possibly real or perceived .001% advantage will have many upgrading or kicking themselves cause they just bought a pair of the soon to be rubbish older models.

A strap that doesn't come off with the result that the bins hit the ground?

A rain guard that actually works?

A decent case?

Don't get me wrong, I am a big fan of Swarovski and their service, but the accessories suck.

Hahaha! You remembered my drawing on an old thread! :t:

But more seriously: I don't think it's hyping, there's more to it.
"Important technological improvements", "new concept binoculars" are other phrases in the article, so I think we may be in for a surprise.

to hype: to advertise aggressively; to stimulate artificially a desire for
something; to cause large excitement in the media.

As I understand the word (native speakers, please help) this is a prototypical example of hype. it's all excitement, rumours and anticipation in combination with absolutely nothing concrete at the moment.
Hype - according to my notion of it.

Maybe something technogically breathtaking ..... or maybe just an EL with a red rubber coat ?
Anything is possible.

All I say is: Keep cool, boys. Have a cup of tea, coffee .... whatever you like; sit back and wait with a relaxed composure.
Ah, and check your bank accout if you have the anticipated 2000 Euros ready to dash off the moment the shops open.

By the way: there is a new laser rangefinder monocular from Zeiss; maybe they forgot to advertise it months before its actual release? It was just there on their website one day.
Is that what you call "upper class understatement" ?

No class at all,
Tom
