A question about Shetland birdwatching (1 Viewer)

Hi All

So in some of the last few autumns I have been to the Scillies, Portland and last weekend north Norfolk. All nice but not desperately exciting.

So, I catch a 'plane from my native Southampton via Glasgow and arrive at Sumburgh.

What do I do next?! (Assume I have accomodation etc etc, so no wisecracks unless very good). What I mean is, is it not a bit needle in a haystack time, or, excuse my ignorance, is it a case of there are only certain locations to visit? I am only thinking of mainland, or at least not Fair Isle.

Just curious to know and to work out a cost.

Thanks for any advice.

Regards

Rob

PS Is haggis served on Shetland? Love it

There are plenty of underwatched areas. I don't think Bressay is that well covered to give one large example.

If you are concerned about the needle in a haystack element you can base yourself on Foula, Skerries or Papa Stour to give a much smaller defined area to work.
