Rheas in Germany (1 Viewer)

There's one that's been on the run for a long time near RAF Odiham. It escaped in 2012 and made the papers in 2014. There's been more recent references on twitter so I believe it's still about.

I haven't seen it lately despite looking, but I may put some effort in over Christmas. I've seen it chasing Roe Deer in the past: it can be quite aggressive!

I'll put a pic up on this post as soon as I find one.

John

I happened to wander round Odiham the other day and the Greater Rhea is still present. It was in a stubble field just outside the RAF Odiham boundary fence, viewable distantly (mostly: parts of the field are screened by trees) from a layby on the minor road (Hayley Lane) that runs SE from the B3349 3 km South of Odiham at Four Lanes End.

There were half a dozen Roe Deer in the same field.

Thanks for the head's up on this John, it's still there today but with 12 Roe Deer companions.
