Twitching For The Kingfisher (1 Viewer)

Recently on Twitter I had been seeing photos of folk seeing a Kingfisher at The Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh which was my first local patch. Today I thought I'd go and have a look, when I arrived there were a few twitchers hoping to see it and while we waited we watched a Bullfinch then suddenly The Kingfisher came so we all went crazy with our cameras etc. Stayed watching it for awhile till I thought I'd let other folk see the bird, here is my video https://youtu.be/VL3-jm7JF6U though I have seen a Kingfisher before but this was my successful third twitch.

I have memories of seeing two on the pond in January '77, during a big freeze (with Water Rail and Grey Heron also appearing at the time). They used the botanical name tags for underwater species of plant as perches. My father saw one at nearby Canonmills on the Water of Leith in 1936. Good to see the tradition continuing.
