September 2017 at Gramborough - last week

A ♂ Stonechat (Additional birds are listed below. ‘Stumpy’ - so-named because he almost lost much more than his now re-grown tail - has bold white wing-patches and a whitish rump. Please let’s have no reports of SibeChat this year, unless there really is one!) and a pair of Wrens are currently resident. Flocks of Linnets and Goldfinches and multiple Mipits continue to confuse. A Kingfisher occasionally delights.

30th 4 flava Wagtails on shingle, then flushed by dog-person & ↑W (the largest ‘congregation’ for this lamentable year for this ‘species’, so far). Robin, Chiffchaff, Blackcap.

29th 2 Goldcrests, Robin, Chiffchaff, Willow Warbler, Blackcap.

28th 2 Redstarts*, Robin.

27th 2 Wheatears (the worst September on record for this species at this site), 3 Robins, Garden & Willow Warblers. There was a gradual build-up thru the day to 5 Redstarts*. 5 Song Thrushes arrived late a’noon.

26th YELLOW-BROWED WARBLER*. (Most welcome: we were beginning to wonder what we’d done to offend the birding gods, with them at almost every other surrounding site.) ♀ Chaffinch, Dunnock, Song Thrush, Whinchat, Wheatear, Garden Warbler, ♂+‘♀’ Redstarts, ♂ Pheasant, Robin.

24th Garden Warbler* (an uncharacteristically showy individual), Redstart, ♂ Blackcap, Chiffchaff, 2 Grey Wagtails ↑E.

23rd GRASSHOPPER* (the first record for about ten years. This led us a less than merry dance, until ID’d, with the rare Locustellids in County) & Garden Warblers, Redstart, ♂ Blackcap, +♂ Stonechat, Chiffchaff.
