This afternoon I birded for about an hour at one of my favorite local patches. I picked up one new bird for the year.

Have spent most of this week in Cairo, holed up in a hotel at a conference. But I did manage two journeys out and saw some great birds here, a new lifer: the glorious White-throated Kingfisher, which hovers just above the water like a Pelican and darts down.
