Hi there, have been searching for the identity of a bird we found sheltering, weak after a big storm, we wrapped a coat around it and took it home was too weak to stand or close it's wings and very unusual , big and brown with a huge hooked beak and large air intake type nostrils on the top of the beak. Thought it was some type of albatross and searched narrowing it down to a Southern Giant Petrel and finally found the exact photo on this site, juvenile plumage big and brown. Named Sparkles by my 6 year old son Alastair, it sadly died in the night. Ross o:) o:)

Hello Ross and welcome to Birdforum from all the Moderators and Admin. Staff.
That's one Hell of a bird you found, pity about it's demise. I look forward to hearing more about the birds you see in your part of the world.
